Exclusive photo essay: Heavy weapons withdrawn from DMZ in Idlib

According to the Idlib Agreement signed on September 17, all heavy weapons were expected to be withdrawn from the demilitarized zone by October 10, 2018. According to exclusive photos obtained by MECRA, heavy weapons were withdrawn. These included tanks, rocket launchers and other ordinance. This is in line with the text of the agreement, "tanks, MLRS, artillery and mortars."

The agreement is important for the future of Syria and also the Russia-Turkey role in brokering the agreement. What follows are some of the photos obtained by MECRA during the withdrawal. We will update with more information as we receive it, including details on locations and the development of the withdrawal in October as both sides of the agreement must certify that the heavy weapons and extremist groups have withdrawn. However questions remain about statements from Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham which has affirmed it will not change course from "jihad and fighting."
